Report
BPCC 2nd XI started their campaign at the theatre of dreams (home match), welcoming Gravesend, for a wet, over-cast, typically early season game in England.
Having been inserted on a green top, Gravesend road their luck early doors to build a solid opening partnership, before Aimey made a quick double break-through, and Day (on debut) picked up his first senior Kent League wicket with an excellent spell.
Spin twins Crowdy and Browning exerted good pressure, taking 2 wickets each, but Joe Mayers and Stavros Elia batted well at the end, to guide Gravesend to a slightly above par 176-7 off 44 overs.
In reply, BPCC started well, with Smith and King both batting positively to take the score to 60-1. Alas, a pretty abject batting collapse saw wickets tumble, and BPCC ultimately falling well short at 130 all out. Special mentions to Cooper and Browning who both fought hard, but lacked the relevant support to see the boys home.
Big improvements needed next week against Old Colfes, however there were some promising signs, with young Smith and Day showing potential, and the bowling attack looking strong. Runs are the currency next week…
