Report

Bickley Park 2nd 11 made the long drive down to the coast to play Broadstairs, knowing that getting a full game in would be a longshot with a terrible forecast predicted- unfortunately this proved to be the case.

Put in to bat in overcast conditions, captain Crowdy and last week’s centurion King got Bickley off to an excellent start after Stafford had departed early. In fact, it was a surprise when King picked out deep mid-wicket to fall for a fluent 40. Crowdy managed to get to his 50, however when he departed a collapse in sued, mainly due to the excellent bowling of Broadstairs spinner Frewin, who ended with impressive figures of 5-24 from his 10 overs. However, a good late stand from Russell and Hewitt got Bickley up to a par 184-9 from their 50 overs.

Broadstairs got off to a flier in reply, until Williams and O’Sullivan ripped through the top order, taking 5 wickets between them. Maru continued the good work, picking up 2 quick wickets to leave Broadstairs reeling at 92-7. Unfortunately at this point the heavens opened, and the downpour that followed ensured that no more play was possible. Special mention to Broadstairs young opening bat, Fox, who looked classy for his 20odd, and will no doubt score plenty more over the course of the season.

So, two games in and BPCC 2nd 11 are still waiting for their first win of the season. If they keep up their encouraging performance on Saturday next weekend, that could well change soon.
