Report
Bickley 2s made the short trip to Gravesend in good spirits on Saturday, following on from their opening game dismantling of Sidcup the previous week.
Gravesend won the toss, and opted to make first use of a decent looking (albeit slightly green pitch), in overcast conditions.
This decision looked to be a bad one, Darroch and Aimey bowled excellent new ball spells, backed up by Harriot, to leave Gravesend reeling at 67-8. However Gravesend number 8 Palinder then proceeded to smash the ball to all parts, regularly clearing the boundary, and helping Gravesend reach a respectable 151 all out.
In reply, Darroch got Bickley off to a flier, also smashing the ball to all parts before departing for a well-made 51. A batting collapse kept things interesting, with Stafford and Ramsey coming together at 94-5, and with the game finely in the balance. Both rode their luck early on, but batted sensibly to comfortably see Bickley home only 5 down with plenty of overs left and in time to grab a burger back at the Field of Dreams watching the 1st XI bring home the bacon!
All in all, a good performance, with special mention to Mick King’s ‘Strauss esque’ catch in the slips and huge thanks to Alex Gariff for standing in as umpire. Great to see you back Ali G!
