Report
BPCC 2nd XI welcomed local rivals Beckenham on Saturday for a hotly anticipated clash, which ultimately wasn’t as close as perhaps predicted.
Winning the toss, BPCC took first use of a flat looking deck and made a reasonable start through Monoghan (who didn’t let any off-field dramas affect his game) and Holcombe. When Monoghan fell for a well made 48, the score was 80-2 and the game in the balance. A couple of quick wickets left BPCC struggling, but useful cameos from Stafford (31) and Ramsey (25) along with Holcombe completing an excellent maiden hundred resulted in a par 251/7. Mahfuzul was the pick of the Beckenham bowlers (3-29 off 10).
In reply, BPCC’s bowlers struggled for rhythm, sending down a plethora of long hops, full tosses and half-volleys, resulting in Beckenham cruising to what should have been a challenging target. Grice, to be fair, scored a chanceless hundred and was well supported by all the Beckenham line up. The fielding was good, and heads didn’t drop, but the bowling left a lot to be desired.
Onwards and upwards, and perhaps not a bad result for the club so early on in the season, after a winning streak dating back into last season. Next up, away at Whitstable, and a chance for some more runs!
