Bickley 2nd XI Back To Winning Ways
BPCC 228-8 (Cooper 67 & King 41)
Dartford 131 a.o. (Williams 3-21 & Horner 3-39)
BPCC won by 97 runs
The 2s took to the Field of Dreams against Dartford with a more regular looking line-up and despite the sporadic rain breaks, managed to secure a much-needed win to get us back on track. It was mightily reassuring to see the Crowdy-Pym power axis back together and orchestrating another fine performance from the home team, which it should be remembered are playing at a higher level this year.
At one point we were probably just one more downpour away from the game being abandoned. Credit however should go to both sides for sticking it out and being rewarded with a complete game which ended in bright sunshine.
Our guests won the toss and unsurprisingly put us in. The returning Alex Cooper did not exhibit any ring rust from his recent absence and patiently went about his business to give us a strong base, eventually compiling a healthy 67. Nice work Alex! Other significant contributions with the bat came from The Director of Cricket himself (Mick King) with 41, while Boy Wonder (Dave Firth) produced a hugely entertaining cameo of 24 not out toward the end of our innings to give us a decent total to defend. The skipper’s stumping was also something to behold!
Tight bowling from all the bowlers kept us in control with Geoff (Williams) and Jack (Horner) deservedly snaring 3 wickets apiece. VC Pym took 4 catches behind the stumps to cap another impressive display while Mick King’s display of showboating to run out one of the oppo instead of leaving it for our keeper was rather unbecoming of a man in such an exulted club position.
Thanks as always to Alex Gariff for standing as our umpire this week – much appreciated Alex
Great win and great spirit lads – bring on Broadstairs!
