Message from the BPCC President

MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

Dear Member/Friend of Bickley Park CC,

To introduce myself to you as your new President is of course a proud moment and tremendous honour.  That it coincides with the club’s 150-year anniversary just makes it even more special. Preparation for the 2018 cricket season is well and truly under way, with the first league fixture scheduled for May 5th – and what a season we have in store!

A great deal of work is going on behind the scenes to prepare for the season ahead and I would like to thank all of those involved hitherto.  I am also mightily heartened by the number of offers from club members to help out in various other ways and would encourage all of you to put your hand up to do likewise.  Whether it’s by preparing for and attending club functions, playing or watching some cricket or enjoying a barbecue at the Club as the 1st XI home games draw to a conclusion, then this is surely the year of all years when we need your active support.

Talking of support, all the events we have planned to make this a successful year do not fund themselves.  As a consequence, may I implore you all to pay your playing and/or social memberships as soon as possible.   Alternatively, why not consider paying a life membership as a one-time payment – a win/win all round!  So, when you’re next at the bar, please go the extra mile and also pay your subs or by all means get in touch with Fiona Bentley at bpcc.membership@gmail.com who will be happy to assist.

On the field, may I wish all our players – at all levels, and particularly the captains – the very best of luck this Season.  Our 1st XI is back competing at the highest level and our 2s and 3s no doubt both harbour ambitions to challenge for honours.  To make this year a success, needless to say we need everyone to pull together, make themselves available as often as possible and put in as strong an individual and team performance as possible. Seeing 3 ticks on the board on a Saturday evening is surely one of life’s great pleasures! The nets are now ready for use so please contact your Captains to attend practise. Most importantly may I wish our junior cricketers a successful and enjoyable year as they develop their skills and talents wearing the Bickley Park colours.

A special word of thanks too for all our unsung heroes who make it all work on match days – the umpires, scorers, coaches, kitchen and bar staff. You guys are awesome!
